Morning sun sparkles
Dewy diamonds dripping
Down delicate yellow daffodils
Dazzlingly rooted on hillsides.
Green blanket tranquilizes
breeze hypnotizes
Beneath the tree canopy
Burned black, grass stubble.
Rain rapidly churns mud
Like rolls of butter
Toward ash-filled empty lots
Guarded by city sandbags.
In loose dirt, half-buried
Two yellow tulip buds
Burst bravely beneath
Porch swing remnants.
How can the same scene
Hold beauty & pain
Tranquility & chaos
Fullness & loss?
I can neither embrace the peace
My heart came here to find, nor
Accept the grief & uncertainty
That came here to find me.
